The O'Brien submarine belongs to the Oberón class and was built in 1971 in Scotland, at the request of the Chilean Navy, arriving in the city of Punta Arenas on August 10, 1976. After having completed 25 years of service it was discharged on December 31, 2001, being acquired by the Municipality of Valdivia to be used for its current use. It is the second of the Oberón class that remains afloat in the world and is one of the three submarines that exist in South America as a museum.
It includes the south of Lake Calafquén and the Pellaifa, Neltume, Pirehueico, Riñihue, Pullinque and Panguipulli lakes; The city is an important tourist center that still maintains a charming harbor atmosphere. In addition, it is characterized by having thousands of rose bushes planted in its streets and owning exquisite cheeses, cider, honey and jam.
The Calle Calle River is born from the San Pedro River, in the Los Lagos commune, a population of Calle Calle, towards the south of Chile. Called "KalleKalle" in Mapudungun, the Mapuche language, who took it for the abundance of the Libertia Chilensis plant that filled with white flowers at the river's edge.
The attractive area of 117 square kilometers, has beautiful turquoise waters suitable for sports and recreation. Its beaches are preferred by visitors to the area, and stand out for the fine sand that can be found in Choshuenco and Chueque. The depth of the lake is 268 meters, transparent waters that are inserted in the middle of a landscape of impressive heights above one thousand meters like the Villarrica Volcano.
The Torreón Picarte or Torreón del Barro is a defensive construction built by the Spanish Empire in southern Chile, in the city of Valdivia, in the XV Region of Los Ríos. It is located at Ramón Picarte Street Nº1244, on the southern edge of the Calle Calle river. The Spanish Crown early perceived the strategic nature of the southern region of Chile, which through the Strait of Magellan and Cape Horn was an intermediate point for navigation from Europe to the American Pacific coast.
