Description

After picking you up at the meeting point in San Pedro de Atacama at the indicated time, we will head south, towards the foothills of the Domeyko mountain range. During the road trip we will admire the Atacama desert landscape and the peaks of the Andes. First of all, we will visit the archaeological site of Yerbas Buenas. This small valley is famous for the rock inscriptions made by the different cultures that inhabited the region. We will walk through the pre-Columbian archaeological site next to the petroglyphs engraved in the stone with sharp utensils and showing animals, everyday scenes and even constellations. Next, we will head to the Rainbow Valley, passing through the town of Matancilla, and we will observe the colored rocks that give it its name. In addition, we will discover why the minerals are arranged in colored stripes, giving rise to an environment so surprising that it seems created by humans. The Rainbow Valley also has imposing rock walls worn by the effects of the wind over thousands of years. Finally, we will head back to San Pedro de Atacama. We will be back in the small square in the center of the town or in a central point of the municipality after four and a half hours of travel.
