Villarrica Volcano

Founded by Belgian priest Gustavo Le Paige, the Archaeological Museum that takes his name shows the evolution of the atacameñan culture throughout more than eleven thousand years, through a valuable collection of Andean archeology that it includes, among other things, pieces of ceramics, clothes, utensils and mummies, being famous the old atacameñan mummy found in the desert and baptized like Miss Chile.

Cochrane, Patagonia National Park

Cochrane is a Chilean town in the Patagonia Aisén Region. The 2002 census gives its population as 2,867. It had no access by road access to the rest of Chile until 1988 when the Carretera Austral was opened. Cochrane is still the southernmost town along the Austral highway, with only a few villages south of it. We did not pass through Cochrane, but passed close to it, as our route from Argentina dropped us down onto the Carretera Austral just north of the town.

Panguipulli Lake

The attractive area of 117 square kilometers, has beautiful turquoise waters suitable for sports and recreation. Its beaches are preferred by visitors to the area and stand out for the fine sand that can be found in Choshuenco and Chueque. The depth of the lake is 268 meters, transparent waters that are inserted in the middle of a landscape of impressive heights above one thousand meters like the Villarrica Volcano.

Castillo Hill

The unit is located in the Aysén Region, communes of Coyhaique and Río Ibáñez. It was created on June 19, 1970 (as a national reserve), through DS No. 201, and covers an area of 138,164 hectares.

Located no more than 50 kilometers from downtown Santiago, the Rio Clarillo National Reserve is considered one of the only forest within the Metropolitan Region. The reserve also plays a fundamental role in the protection and conservation of birds such as the patagonian sierra finch, thorn-tailed rayadito and the white-crested elaenia. Among its 13,000 hectares it’s possible to find three differents trekking trails: Quebrada Jorquera, Aliwén Mahuida and Arboretum
