The Torreón Picarte or Torreón del Barro is a defensive construction built by the Spanish Empire in southern Chile, in the city of Valdivia, in the XV Region of Los Ríos. It is located at Ramón Picarte Street Nº1244, on the southern edge of the Calle Calle River. The Spanish Crown early perceived the strategic nature of the southern region of Chile, which through the Strait of Magellan and Cape Horn was an intermediate point for navigation from Europe to the American Pacific coast.

Chaitén is a small volcanic caldera located on the flank of the Michinmahuida volcano in southern Chile. Before 2008, it consisted mainly of a rhyolitic lava dome last active 9,400 years ago. But in May 2008, Chaitén began erupting violently, producing numerous plumes, pyroclastic flows, and lahars, and building a new lava dome on the north side of the old one. The eruption has had serious consequences for the nearby town of Chaitén, inundating it with lahars and ash, and ash from the eruption has even disrupted travel and agriculture in surrounding countries.

Located just 60km from the regional city of Osorno lies Mansa Bay and a number of smaller bays and coves with beautiful blue waters and white sand. The most isolated - but possibly most beautiful - of these is Caleta Condor, a bone-white sandy beach that lies in the indigenous Huilliche Reserve, surrounded by forests.
