Description

Enjoy a unique experience on Rapa Nui, exploring some of the island's most fascinating archaeological sites and discovering the history and legends of the moai, the iconic statues that have made the island famous. We begin our tour around 3:00 p.m. from the village of Hanga Roa, visiting Ahu Vinapu, a ceremonial center built by the ancient islanders around 1200 AD. This site has three ahus: the first has six moai that have been knocked down and painted red; the second includes a moai that is supposedly female with two heads; and the third, the oldest, has only removed stones remaining, witnesses to the history that remains alive on the island. We continue to the Puna Pau quarry, located in a small red cinder crater east of Hanga Roa. This is where the pukaos, the characteristic headdresses that crowned the moai, were extracted. Along the ancient transport trail, you can still see some unfinished and abandoned moai, a testament to the ingenuity and construction techniques of the original inhabitants of Rapa Nui. We continue our route to Ahu Akivi, the first scientifically restored ahu on the island around 1960. With seven moai, this platform is special because its statues face the rising sun, unlike most of the moai on the island. According to local traditions, these moai represent the seven young explorers sent before the arrival of Hotu Matua to reconnoiter the island. Finally, the tour concludes at Ahu Huri a Urenga, another iconic site where you can admire more moai and connect with the history and spirituality of the island. This tour will allow you not only to take memorable photographs, but also to understand the ancestral culture of Rapa Nui and its connection to nature and the cosmos. This tour is ideal for lovers of archaeology, history, and adventure, offering an educational and visually stunning experience, where each site visited has its own history and mystery.
