For much of Chile's history, Pais was the most commonly cultivated grape that just recently passed by Cabernet Sauvignon. Some red wine varieties include Merlot, Carmenère, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet franc, Pinot noir, Syrah, Sangiovese, Barbera, Malbec and Carignan.
