Sausalito Lagoon
Sausalito Lagoon is an artificial reservoir located in the city of Viña del Mar, in Valparaíso, Chile. It has an area of 8 hectares and a capacity of 400 thousand m³ and empties through the channels that reach the Marga Marga estuary.
It was built as a reservoir for the protection of the vineyard cultivation of Hacienda la Viña del Mar by Jose Francisco Vergara at the end of the 19th century. In March 1929 both the body of water and the surrounding land were acquired by the Pro Balneario Board of the Municipality of Viña del Mar, where the construction of a sports field was planned, inaugurated on September 8 of that year with The name of El Tranque Stadium. In 1960 the stadium and the lagoon changed their name with the signing of the brotherhood agreement with the American city of Sausalito.
