Det är välkänt att Plaza de Armas de Concepción kallas Plaza de la Independencia. I själva verket, enligt National Tourism Service (Sernatur), är detta den enda “Plaza de Armas” i Chile som bär ett annat namn än det.



Och det är så att Sernatur också hävdade att Chiles självständighet utropades på Plaza de Armas de Concepción den 1 januari 1818, när Bernardo O'Higgins så förklarade och svor, framför Patriotarmén. På detta sätt, den 1 januari 2018, firades 200 år av denna historiska händelse.
 


Plaza de Armas de Concepción föddes 1752 efter att staden flyttade från sin ursprungliga plats efter att ha förstörts av en jordbävning och en tsunami. Enligt Educarchile blev torget ett “socialt samlingsplats där invånarna brukade prata om stadens kontingens. Sedan, 1818, skulle han ändra sitt namn till Plaza de la Independencia tack vare Bernardo O'Higgins.
 
Senare, 1856, lades fontänen som för närvarande finns i mitten av torget till. Denna grundades i Liverpool, England, skulpterades delvis av San Alejandro och Alejandro Strange och designades av Augusto Bleuze, en belgisk konstnär som, lustigt nog, inte visste om huemules.
