Description
Yungay: Memory, Art, and Neighborhood
Murals, cités, museums, and stories of struggle, memory, and patrimonial beauty.
We begin our journey in the historic Quinta Normal Park, one of Santiago’s oldest and most emblematic green areas. From there, we visit the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, a powerful space that honors victims of the dictatorship and promotes reflection, justice, and dignity — a starting point for a tour rooted in identity, resistance, and hope.
We then head into the heart of Barrio Yungay, a neighborhood where culture, art, and history live in every corner. We visit the Gabriela Mistral Education Museum, which connects us to the legacy of public education, and explore iconic places such as the Cité Las Palmas, the vibrant Pasaje Adriana Cousiño, and the charming Pasaje Lucrecia Valdés.
You’ll witness powerful murals that tell stories of migration, feminism, memory, and community resistance. We’ll stop by San Saturnino Church, one of Santiago’s oldest temples, and walk through streets once inhabited by cultural icons like Rubén Darío and Violeta Parra, and today by Gabriel Boric, Chile’s current president.
We continue into the colorful and energetic Barrio Brasil, a sector full of cultural life, alternative art, and family heritage. Here you’ll see vibrant murals, historic mansions, community spaces, and iconic locations like Plaza Brasil, a gathering point for artists, children, and neighbors alike.
Finally, we arrive at the unique Barrio Concha y Toro, with its European-inspired curved streets, loaded with art, bohemia, and old Santiago charm. We end the tour at S&S Bar, an authentic neighborhood spot to relax with a drink and share stories surrounded by murals and memory.
✨ This is not just a walk — it's a deep dive into Chile's social, cultural, and emotional identity. A must-do in Santiago for those who seek more than sightseeing: a real connection with its people, art, and spirit.
With Roots & Routes, we do 'tourism with meaning'. You’ll also receive curated recommendations on where to eat, drink, and explore: traditional Chilean food, pisco bars, street snacks, and also films, documentaries, and series to continue your journey into Chilean memory and culture.
