Jose Francisco Vergara Square, more commonly Vergara Square or simply Viña Square, is a square that is located in the center of
Viña del Mar in the Region of ValparaÃso, Chile, specifically on the land formed by the extension of Liberty Avenue, through the bridge of the same name, between the streets Arlegui and ValparaÃso.
The founder of Viña del Mar,
Jose Francisco Vergara, assigned the land where the square would later be located to the city. This gesture was made official in the training plan and the authorization decree issued on December 29, 1874, documents that called it Plaza de Sucre, being inserted in the middle of the
Liberty Avenue road.
In 1930, the square was completely
remodeled when tiles and La Chimera and El Eco sculptures were installed. In 1996, a monument to the founder Jose Francisco Vergara was placed in the
center of the square.
