Description
The tour begins at the Church of Nuestra Señora de Dolores, a Catholic temple located at the intersection of Calle Álvares and Plaza Eduardo Grove. This church is dedicated to San Padre Hurtado and features Emilio Jecquier’s 1912 work.
Next, the group visits Palacio Vergara inside Quinta Vergara park, a historic building declared a monument in 2008. Rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake by architects Ettore and Alejandro Petri, the palace was inspired by Venice's Ca' d'Oro and opened in 1910.
The walk continues through Plaza José Francisco Vergara, a central square bordered by grand palaces, many of which are now clubs. The tour then proceeds to the Rioja Palace in Población Vergara, declared a National Monument in 1985. This palace houses the Viña del Mar Museum of Decorative Arts, containing around 384 pieces including Empire-style furniture, Napoleonic replicas, textiles, and decorative elements from early 20th-century Chilean aristocracy.
The tour concludes at the Francisco Fonck Museum of Archaeology and History, located at Calle 4 Norte 784. Outside, the original Moai statue from Easter Island, brought in 1951, marks the farewell point. Visitors may choose to enter the museum.
