Teatro Oriente

The Teatro Oriente is part of the cultural offering that the Providencia Cultural Foundation makes available to the community. Its objective is to generate high level cultural activities for all audiences. Our motivation is to contribute from our experience to the artistic work of the commune, as well as the inhabitants of the metropolitan region.In its 85 years, it has undergone several renovations and in the first of them, in 1958, the aim was to accentuate its modern character and the north passage was eliminated, ceasing to be an isolated volume. The work was commissioned to the architects Ignacio Tagle, Juan Echenique, Jaime Sanfuentes, Osvaldo Larrain and Jaime Larrain and within the most visible part, the orchestra pit was eliminated, the backlit art deco steel and acrylic marquee that it originally had was transformed, and the third stall was closed. Meanwhile, a striking neon sign appeared on the front with the name Teatro Oriente.Since its origin in 1925, the CMN is the organization in charge of the protection and guardianship of the cultural and natural heritage of Chile. Historical Monuments are places, ruins, constructions and objects of public, municipal or private property that, due to their quality and historical or artistic interest or their antiquity, have been declared as such by supreme decree, issued at the request and prior agreement of the Council of National Monuments CMN. Cultural heritage is understood as a good or set of goods that constitute a legacy or inheritance that is passed from one generation to another and that operates as a testimony of the existence of our ancestors, their practices and ways of life.
