Description
Choose between two options: the tour including entry tickets or the tour without tickets. This package covers both the Tatio Geysers and Moon Valley tours on the same day, or on different days by request.
Tatio Geysers: Early pickup from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama (4:30–5:00 AM) takes you 61 miles into the Andes at 4,320 meters above sea level. El Tatio, meaning 'The Grandfather Who Cries' in the Kunza language, is the largest geyser field in the southern hemisphere and third largest worldwide.
Between 6:00 and 7:00 AM, the geysers erupt, sending steam columns up to 10 meters high with temperatures reaching 85°C. Afterward, breakfast is served while observing the sunrise. Wildlife like vicuñas, llamas, rheas, and vizcachas inhabit the area, along with native flora such as giant cacti, llaretas, and coirón.
From a viewpoint, you can see the ancestral village of Machuca, home to residents who mainly raise livestock and produce cheese. Nearby, Laguna Salada supports families of flamingos, ducks, and seagulls set against desert scenery.
You will return to San Pedro de Atacama around noon and have free time before the Moon Valley tour.
Moon Valley Tour: Departure from the San Pedro de Atacama office occurs at 4 PM during summer and 3 PM in winter. The tour bus, accommodating up to 12 people, takes you into the Atacama Desert within the Flamencos National Reserve to visit Valle de la Luna.
This natural sanctuary features landscapes resembling the moon’s surface, including the rock formation Las Tres Marías, the Major Dune, and viewpoints like Quebrada Honda where Coyote Stone is located. The tour concludes with a desert sunset viewed from an elevated vantage point.
Important: Avoid booking flights on the same day as the Moon Valley tour to prevent scheduling conflicts.
