Description
The journey begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in Punta Arenas (urban area) between 8:00 and 8:30 am. Then, travel 70 km south along Route 9 to Punta Árbol, the trailhead.
The hike follows a pebble beach along the Strait’s coast, covering approximately 5.5 km each way and taking about 2 hours at a normal pace. Along the trail, your guide introduces local plants and animals, with the chance to spot dolphins or whales near the shore.
At San Isidro Lighthouse—the southernmost lighthouse in continental America—you can rest, take photos, and enjoy views of Dawson Island, the Darwin Mountain Range, and the Brunswick Peninsula, weather permitting. The stop lasts 30 to 40 minutes for eating, hydrating, and exploring before returning via the same path.
On the way back, there is an optional stop at the Geographical Landmark of Chile, marking a symbolic regional point. The tour concludes with a return to Punta Arenas in the late afternoon.
