Hornitos is one of the most beautiful beaches in northern Chile. Summer houses, cliffs and a sea of film make this spa a paradisiacal place.

Always close to the sea
The ocean route that leads from Antofagasta to Iquique is unique by the way you look at it, not only because the sea is always on one side, but because it develops with a peace and serenity that between curves and straight lines allows us to observe how it is life in these latitudes.
Fishermen's, sea and desert's reefs begin to be drawn as spots on a wall as we leave the peninsula of Mejillones. And it is from here that the sea fuses with the desert in a constant struggle to see who is the protagonist. There are times that the sea wins and others, the sand.
So after traveling 90 kilometers from Antofagasta and passing small resorts such as Chacaya and Itata, a small sign appears that says that just 3 kilometers to the left is the exotic spa of Hornitos. And there it is. A difficult place to describe, where the cliffs of an immense plateau of sand break against the presence of the sea and between these two phenomena a hundred summer houses are in charge of acting as an intermediary.
Almost virgin nature
Hornitos does not have water, electricity or services, it is rather a summer place where people must take everything during their stay and where ecology must be taken care of in the strictest way: you can not throw anything away. The beauty of the place is such that this measure is accepted by everyone who visits the site.
The sea here is unique. It has the ideal temperature to bathe even late into the night and is so serene and blue that few resist the idea of staying to watch it from outside. Houses of two floors of all colors are happening in the kilometers that the plateau faces the sea. Some are supported on stilts or stilt houses, others directly, as embedded in the rocks.
The truth is that at first sight this variety of colors and shapes falls in love with the visitor. Behind these plateaus and cliffs, it is possible to appreciate the majesty of the desert that, from the top of its mountains, guards this small paradise that the man baptized 'Hornitos'.
A place of summer for the inhabitants of Antofagasta where nature contributed its greatness and divine wisdom and where man found the last of his shoe: to live without causing any damage, something practically impossible in the modern times in which the world runs.
