The General Carrera Lake or 'Chelenko' as the Tehuelches called it, whose meaning is 'Lake of the Tempests', recognized as the largest in Chile and second in South America with an area of 978.12 km 2.

The Baker River, the largest in Chile, receives its waters from General Carrera Lake, Lake Plomo, and Bertrand, its intense turquoise color stands out throughout its long trajectory to Caleta Tortel. The North Ice Fields, next to the South Ice Field, is the 3rd largest water reservoir after Antarctica and Greenland.

You can get to know and live the experience of being on a glacier by taking some of the excursions offered by local operators for different types of public, such as Ice Trek ½ day, Navigation in the zodiac, remote rivers, expedition 4 to 5 days, in San Rafael Glacier, Exploradores, Leones Glacier, Colonia, Nef, and Steffen.
