Continue to Akahanga, an archaeological site with toppled moai that reveal the island’s past. Visit Rano Raraku, the volcanic quarry that served as the birthplace of the moai statues, and Tongariki, featuring 15 restored moai on a large platform. Stop at Te Pito Kura, a sacred site, and finish the day at Anakena beach, known for its palm trees and moai.
The second day focuses on sites in the east of the island. Begin with Orongo, a historic village overlooking the Rano Kau volcanic crater. Then visit Vinapu, showcasing ancient stone masonry, and Puna Pau, the quarry that provided the red stone for moai topknots. Explore Ana Te Pahu, a cave system with chambers and petroglyphs. The tour ends at Ahu Akivi, where seven moai face the ocean, unique in their orientation compared to other statues on the island.
