Description

Begin your Villarrica Volcano climb with a gear check and briefing at our Pucon office the day before the ascent. On the climb day, meet at 6:00 a.m. at Calle Palguin 336 to depart for the volcano base.

The hike starts with a walk to the first cable car station. For an additional 20,000 CLP, you may take a chairlift that saves about 1.5 hours of trekking. Otherwise, you can hike the full route accompanied by your guide.

As you reach snow and glacier terrain, guides provide instruction and aid with crampons and ice axes. The climb to the 2,847-meter summit takes approximately four to six hours. From the top, view the volcanic crater, fumaroles, and surrounding volcanoes including Llaima, Lonquimay, and Lanin, as well as Lake Villarrica.

After spending about 10 minutes at the peak, you descend using snow tubes when conditions allow, or by foot if necessary. Guides share insights about the mountain throughout the excursion. Transport returns you to Pucon where the tour ends with a beer on the terrace overlooking Villarrica Volcano.
