Bästa tiden att besöka Piedras Rojas är efter regnen när vattnet rengör stenarna och får större färgintensitet.
 
För att komma till Piedras Rojas måste du vara mycket uppmärksam eftersom vägen inte är skyltad. Sektorn ligger 160 km från San Pedro de Atacama. Du bör köra mot Paso Sico (gränsövergång med Argentina) tills skyltar dyker upp mot Aguas Calientes.
 
Efter att ha passerat Socaire måste du köra 60 km till tills du kommer till en skylt för Paso Sico 49 km och El Laco 17 km, och 800 meter bort hittar du ingången till höger.
 
På grund av sin närhet till de Altiplaniska lagunerna kan du boka en rundtur till Piedras Rojas som inkluderar besök till dessa två sektorer. Den inkluderar även ett stopp vid Laguna Chaxa och byarna Socaire och Toconao. Entrén till Piedras Rojas är gratis.
