La Portada Natural Monument
This peculiar rocky formation resembles a white arch. Set in an area where strong waves crash into the cliffs, behold the power of nature reflected in these stone walls, which are actually mountain tops of the Coastal Mountain Range.
Salto del Laja
It is one of the undisputed tourist icons of southern Chile and you have surely seen it in brochures and guides that graph it in all its splendor, but nothing compares to feeling the noise of the water falling with strength or observing very closely how thousands and thousands liters fall from 35 meters high. Los Saltos del Laja are, without a doubt, a spectacle of our nature that you should know.
Cochrane, Patagonia National Park
Cochrane is a Chilean town in the Patagonia Aisén Region. The 2002 census gives its population as 2,867. It had no access by road access to the rest of Chile until 1988 when the Carretera Austral was opened. Cochrane is still the southernmost town along the Austral highway, with only a few villages south of it. We did not pass through Cochrane, but passed close to it, as our route from Argentina dropped us down onto the Carretera Austral just north of the town.
Los Flamencos National Reserve
Located in the Antofagasta Region, within the commune of San Pedro de Atacama and stands out for the protection of the typical fauna of the place, such as the culpeo fox, puma, vicuña, guanaco and tuco tuco de la puna. The reserve is divided into 7 sectors, each with particular climates; causing causes that the flora and fauna to vary within the same reserve. Using the available trails you can access the Laguna Miscanti, Laguna Chaxa, Valle de la Luna, the Tulor Village and several salt flats.
The attractive area of 117 square kilometers, has beautiful turquoise waters suitable for sports and recreation. Its beaches are preferred by visitors to the area and stand out for the fine sand that can be found in Choshuenco and Chueque. The depth of the lake is 268 meters, transparent waters that are inserted in the middle of a landscape of impressive heights above one thousand meters like the Villarrica Volcano.
The lake is located in the Cordillera de la Costa. It is surrounded by native forests and plantations, where you can enjoy nature, go hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and observe the birdlife that congregates, where hundreds of black-necked swans stand out.
The Moon Valley
Natural Sanctuary since 1982, the Moon Valley is a wonderful place with colorful geology. Located in the Sierra Obate depression, 2550 meters above sea level, it has different visual attractions that turn it in an extraordinary place called "Moon Valley" because of its similar look to lunar soil.
San Rafael Lagoon National Park
San Rafael exhibits marvelous topographic variety. Its sea fauna and channels, islands, snowcaps and fjords offer a grat place for tourism. The Northern Ice Field, San Rafael Lagoon and San Rafael Snowcap, are the favorite spot for national and foreing visitors because of their amazing landscapes and ecologycal biodiversity.
