La Martmita has quickly become one of the most popular places to dine in Punta Arenas, and looking at some of the delectable meals on offer it is easy to see why. “Cancato de Congrio” (white fish cooked papillote-style with grilled tomatoes, zucchinis, white wine and capers); “Chuletas de cerdo a la alsaciana” (a French recipe with German influence, pork chops are marinated with orange and beer, accompanied with potatoes gratin and a helping of purple sauerkraut with bacon and white sausage); or there is “Pulmai” for those who like to share, a traditional dish from the Chilean Archipelago that is served in a ceramic pot consisting of shellfish, meat and potatoes.
Found in a quiet part of the city, this offbeat restaurant deals in big portions and caters for all food types, from strict vegetarians – who will have to try the pasta-less lasagne with eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes – to avid meat and fish eaters, all of which are superbly accompanied with a wide choice of local wines.
