Det er et tradisjonelt boligområde i Santiago, som viser sine egne egenskaper sammenlignet med fremskrittet av modernitet som andre nabolag i byen viser. Det ble grunnlagt med det navnet til ære for seieren til den Forente restaureringshæren i slaget ved Yungay, 20. januar 1839, i krigen mot Peru-Boliviansk konføderasjon. Det viktigste landemerket og startpunktet for turister er den homonyme torget, der Monumentet til Roto Chileno er plassert, som er en hyllest til byens chilenske.
