De Osorno-vulkaan is een symmetrische, gletsjerbedekte stratovulkaan in het zuiden van Chili, die uitsteekt boven de meren Todos los Santos en Llanquihué.
 
Osorno is een van de meest actieve vulkanen van Chili. Historische uitbarstingen hebben vaak lavastromen voortgebracht. Veel uitbarstingen hebben plaatsgevonden vanuit zowel de top als flankopeningen en spleten, voornamelijk aan de west- en zuidwestzijden. Lavastromen van de uitbarstingen hebben de meren Todos los Santos en Llanquihué bereikt.
 
Hoewel de historische activiteit voornamelijk uitvloeiend was, zijn er vele explosieve uitbarstingen geïdentificeerd die pyroclastische stromen en surges hebben gegenereerd in de afgelopen 14.000 jaar.
 
De Osorno-vulkaan bestaat bijna uitsluitend uit basaltische tot basaltische-andesitische lava's, met uitzondering van 2 kleine dacitische lavakoepels aan de NW- en ZO-flanken.
 
Geologie van de Osorno-vulkaan:
De huidige kegel van Osorno is deels gebouwd boven een ongeveer 250.000 jaar oude geërodeerde stratovulkaan, La Picada, die een grotendeels begraven 6 km brede caldera heeft. La Picada ligt onder Osorno aan de NE-kant en heeft postglaciale maars en sintelkegels.
