O'Brien-sukellusvene on Oberón-luokkaa ja se rakennettiin vuonna 1971 Skotlannissa Chilen laivaston pyynnöstä. Se saapui Punta Arenasiin 10. elokuuta 1976. Sen palveltua 25 vuotta se poistettiin käytöstä 31. joulukuuta 2001 ja se ostettiin Valdivian kunnalta nykyiseen käyttöönsä. Se on toinen Oberón-luokan sukellusvene, joka on edelleen pinnalla maailmassa ja yksi kolmesta sukellusveneestä, jotka ovat olemassa Etelä-Amerikassa museona.



Vierailu sukellusveneellä antaa mahdollisuuden kokea miehistön kohtaamat haasteet päivittäin, erityisesti silloin, kun se oli pidempiä aikoja meren alla: sukellusveneen mitat, sen matkustus- ja maksiminopeus, sen varusteet ja aseet, koneosasto, moottorit, miehistön hytit ja sotalaivan ohjaushuone.
