Der General Carrera See oder 'Chelenko', wie ihn die Tehuelches nannten, was 'See der Stürme' bedeutet, gilt als der größte in Chile und der zweitgrößte in Südamerika mit einer Fläche von 978,12 km2.
 


Der Baker River, der größte in Chile, erhält seine Wasser vom General Carrera See, dem See Plomo und Bertrand, seine intensive türkisfarbene Farbe hebt sich auf seinem langen Weg nach Caleta Tortel hervor. Das Nordische Eisfeld, neben dem Südlichen Eisfeld, ist nach der Antarktis und Grönland der drittgrößte Wasserspeicher.

 

Sie können die Erfahrung machen, auf einem Gletscher zu sein, indem Sie an einigen der von örtlichen Betreibern angebotenen Ausflüge für verschiedene Zielgruppen teilnehmen, wie z.B. Ice Trek ½ Tag, Navigation im Schlauchboot, entlegene Flüsse, Expedition 4 bis 5 Tage, am San Rafael Gletscher, Exploradores, Leones Gletscher, Colonia, Nef und Steffen.
