Der Name Concepcion stammt von der Festung, die dort erbaut wurde, um die Stadt zu verteidigen. Er wird auch Cerro del Chivato genannt, der Name eines mythologischen Wesens, das angeblich am Fuße des Hügels, in der Höhle von Chivato, gelebt hat und jeden entführt hat, der nachts dort vorbeikam.
